How To Remove Oil Stains From Carpet

We all love decorating our house with beautiful carpets and rugs but stains on them can break our heart. From dirt, to food, to dust it’s difficult to keep a large amount of carpet clean. Cleaning a carpet is a strenuous task in itself but if you have an oil stain on it then it will be more difficult. So we are compiling some methods to help you deal with such code red situations. You do not need extraordinary things to do this job. It can be done by using daily life household things.

Method 1: Using Baking Soda or Corn Starch

1: First you need to put baking soda or corn starch on the stained area thoroughly. Both these reagents are great absorbents; they will absorb the liquid oil from the carpet without further staining or harming the carpet. Don’t rub too softly or too harshly, just generate enough force to penetrate into the carpet fibers. You can use a utility brush for larger oil stains, and an old toothbrush for small stains.

2: Put a generous amount of baking soda or the corn starch on the carpet let it sit for few minutes that is from 15 to 20 minutes at least then use a vacuum cleaner on it and it will suck the whole thing from the carpet.

3: Mix one quart of warm water and one-fourth teaspoon of dishwashing liquid, Make sure the dishwashing liquid is a brand that doesn’t contain lanolin or bleach. Apply this water and dishwashing liquid mixture with a sponge directly onto the stain. Blot the affected area of the carpet until the oil stain is no longer visible.

Method 2: Employing Rubbing Alcohol

1: Alcohol also helps in removing stains. Apply a small amount of rubbing alcohol to a clean cloth or paper towel. Keep on rubbing it for a while and you will see the stain going away. But you need to be very careful as it is highly inflammable so do not keep any fire objects around it and also do not let children around it. (Rubbing alcohol is entirely safe if handled with caution)

Method 3: Using Dry Cleaning Solvent

Dry cleaning solvents also help in removing the stains. But you need to test it before applying on the carpet. First use it on the carpet somewhere in the corner to see that the solvent does not leave any mark of its own. Once you have checked then put the solvent on the carpet stained area. Let the solvent sit for a while then with a wet cloth clean the area.

If you find any more stain then you can repeat the procedures again to remove the oil stain. The advantages of using these reagents are as follows-

  • They are environment friendly.
  • They will not harm your body either.
  • They are available easily in every shop.
