How to Remove Ice Cream Stains from Carpet

Ice cream goes with everything until it makes it to your favourite carpet. At first, ice cream may look like a harmless stain, but it is protein based, and if not removed properly it can be one of the most difficult dry stains to remove. You might think the stain is completely gone, but slowly a brown or yellowish ring will reappear.

 Given below are some steps if you want to remove ice cream stain from your carpet

When cleaning a fresh ice cream spill

  1. With the help of a spoon, scoop as much of the ice cream off the carpet as possible, being careful not to grind it more into the carpet fibres and working from the outer edges of the spill inwards to prevent it from spreading.
  2. Take a cloth saturated with cool water or club soda, and then sponge the area to rinse as much of the ice cream leftover from the carpet as possible. Blot the area with a dry cloth as you soak then continue to clean.
  3. Take 1cup of water and mix ½ tbsp dish liquid in it and sponge the solution onto the area, blot it with a dry cloth to remove it.
  4. You can also use foam shaving cream instead of dish liquid. On the stained area apply a bit of shaving cream, gently rub it into the carpet fibres using an old toothbrush.  Sponge the area with water to rinse, then pat it dry. Repeat the process until the stain is gone.
  5. You can use ammonia if the stain is stubborn. In 1 cup of water, mix ½ tbsp ammonia and before you can apply it to the stained area, apply it on a hidden area first and look for any adverse reaction. Do not use ammonia on a wool carpet. Sponge the solution onto the stain. To rinse it, sponge the area with water, then pat it dry.

Removing old ice cream stains

  1. In 1 cup of water mix ½ tbsp of borax. Sponge the solution onto the stain, then using a dry cloth blot up the liquid and sponge with plain water to rinse. Repeat the process until the stain is gone.
  2. Take a bit of shaving cream and apply it to the spot, using an old toothbrush gently rub it into the carpet Sponge the area with water to rinse, then pat it dry. Repeat the process until the stain is invincible.
  3. Use ammonia if the stain is headstrong. Mix ½ tbsp ammonia in 1 cup of water and before applying it to the stained area test the solution on a hidden area of your carpet to notice any adverse reaction. It is recommended to avoid ammonia if your carpet is made up of wool. If you don’t notice any adverse reaction, then sponge the solution onto the stained area. Using water sponge the area, then pat it dry.
